30 years after launching, the Air Max 90 has never gone out of fashion and is still pimping up our feet. Nike has decided to bring out a new design to celebrate the milestone.
Air Max 90 sneakers were created by the famous designer Tinker Hatfield and came out in 1990. (Makes sense). They provide improved flexibility, an innovative lacing system and are instantly recognisable with their in-your-face features and mudguards – “speed” effect.
They were originally designed for runners so have a larger air cushion than their big sisters to give athletes a smoother ride. Over the years, the Air Max 90 gradually left the track to strut its stuff as a trendsetter. Kanye West, Drake, Jamie Foxx and even the former US President George W. Bush Senior are loyal fans of the model. Àt the time, Bush Senior even had his own pair of Air Max 90s designed especially for him.
30 years later, the AM 90 has become divinely vintage
The design has been given an makeover for the legendary sneaker’s 30th anniversary. Signature features and proportions have been revisited. The lining and cushion build have been updated to give the pair a vintage look. The dates “1990” and “2020” appear on the bottom of the laces in a subtle nod to the milestone. If you’re feeling retro then Nike has even recreated the original skinny box design used at the start of the 90s.
Retailing for 150 Euros, the Air Max 90 CS is now available in off-white monochrome tones. We don’t know about you but, as Strictly’s Craig Revel Horwood would say: “three words: Fab-u-lous!”
