Michael Jordan’s Nike Air Ship sold for almost 1.5 million

At the “Icons of Excellence & Haute Luxury” auction in Las Vegas organised by Sotheby’s, the pair of Nike Air Ship worn and signed by Michael Jordan sold at the end of October for 1.47 million dollars. This is close to the record for a pair worn in a game.

Designed by Peter Moore and worn by the American basketball superstar between 1984 and 1985 Michael Jordan: one of the most precious pairs in the sneaker world has been sold at auction. Its price? 1.47 million dollars. Dressed in red and white, the Nike Air Ship was worn by the American basketball legend in the fifth game of his first season with the Chicago Bulls, and became iconic both on and off the court.

While the sale price doesn’t surpass the pair worn by Kanye West in 2008, the prototype Nike Air Yeezy 1, it does set a record for the most expensive sneaker worn in a game. The previous record was held by a Nike Air Jordan, which sold for $615,000 in August 2020 at a Christie’s auction.
