Next In Fashion, Making The Cut: fashion on SVoD platforms

Netflix’s first fashion show is the brilliant, positive and inspiring Next in Fashion series that launched in late January. Queer Eye’s Tan France and the presenter and designer Alexa Chung host the 10 episodes.

Next in Fashion is a competition showcasing 18 talented designers in the middle of their careers. Competitors start in teams of two before going solo to design pieces based on specific themes (rock, denim, tailoring, activewear etc.). They have to think outside the box and create innovative and original outfits that look as good on the catwalk as on the sidewalk. Up for grabs: is offering the winner 250,000 dollars and the website will sell their designs. It’s a recipe for success: the designers are from a range of different backgrounds with unique personalities, often with in-depth technical experience, which makes the show creative and inspiring. The warm and friendly presenters and judges, Alexa Chung and Tan France, are joined by guest judges to suit the episode e.g. stylist Elizabeth Stewart (one of Hollywood’s biggest stylists who dresses the likes of Julia Roberts, Cate Blanchett and Sandra Bullock), Eva Chen (director of fashion partnerships at Instagram), Josefine Aberg (Adidas design director), Tommy Hilfiger, Monique Lhuillier etc.

Will Making the Cut do better than Next in Fashion?
The candidates have a day and a half to design outfits that will be unveiled on the catwalk at the end of every episode (except the final!). has been showcasing and selling the winner’s designs for a month (don’t visit until you’ve watch the 10 episodes though).

This is a fashion series that is true to Netflix’s image: international, multicultural and a beacon for diversity. In a few days Amazon Prime is launching a new fashion show, Making the Cut, presented by Heidi Klum (Project Runway). Up for grabs: 1 million dollars and every week’s winning look available to buy on Amazon.
