Rei Kawakubo plays with a new Nike Air Force 1 x COMME des GARÇONS

COMME des GARÇONS and Nike are no strangers to fresh collaborations and we’re pleased to say they’re back to their old tricks. Rei Kawakubo’s Fall/Winter 20 show gave a sneak peek of a pair of Air Force 1 Mids, already on sneaker fanatics’ radars.

Japanese brand COMME des GARÇONS unveiled a Fall Winter 2020 collection a few days ago with mind-boggling oversize skirts and headpieces. Among the lace and neoprene, statement shoulders, pink and electric blue, one detail stood out: the models were wearing a bold take on the iconic Nike Air Force 1 on their feet.

Paired with over-branded COMME des GARÇONS socks, the sneakers strutted their stuff on the catwalk in a monochrome white version. The footwear is certainly made of leather, plays on deconstruction and layering panels. Its unique features? A padded ankle strap and pieces of leather grafted onto the heel overlay, vamp and eyelets. The COMME des GARÇONS logo appears in large font on the strap. Rei Kawakubo is the master of this signature textured and avant-garde aesthetic. Once again, the designer’s creative and intrepid energy with the swoosh brand should be celebrated.

The launch date is still TBC but we’re sure we’ll find out more about this pair of Nike Air Force 1 Mid x COMME des GARÇONS sneakers in the next few months.
