The 77th Golden Globe Awards celebrated the films and series that made 2019 what it was in early January. The ceremony was presented by the sharp-witted Ricky Gervais (creator and main character in The Office and Extras) and Succession and Fleabag won best series.
The HBO series by Britain’s Jesse Armstrong – Succession– won the Golden Globe for best drama series and best actor (Brian Cox). Phoebe Waller-Bridge – showrunner and starring role in Fleabag – earned two awards: best actress in a comedy television series and best comedy television series! Phoebe and Fleabag had already won acclaim with three Emmy Awards in 2019…
Succession is about the complex relationships and rivalries in the Roy family running one of the biggest conglomerates in the United States. Fleabag, available on Amazon Video, paints the portrait of a thirty-something Londoner who owns a café which she has to run alone after her friend’s fatal accident.

But this is our favourite: the award for the best actress in a comedy went to the quirky Awkwafina for her role in The Farewell. She is the first person of Asian origin to win a prize in this category. Musician, rapper (My Vag in 2012, Yellow Ranger in 2014, In Fina We Trust in 2018), film and series actress – the thirty year old’s wealth of experience will come to Comedy Central in January in Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens which she writes and stars in.
